June 25th, 1855 Middle Oregon Treaty was signed by Wasco, Warm Springs with the United States of America. Title of land was ceded to the United States for 10,000,000 acres of land owned and occupied by the two tribes. The Tribes reserved their tribal way of life, by reserving the right to hunt, fish, gather roots and berries and pasture our stocks on and off-reservation. The Paiute tribes arrived on the Warm Springs Reservation in late 1880’s to make up The Confederated Tribes of The Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon.

The many tribes of what is now the State of Oregon weathered many challenges-earthquakes, floods, fires, volcanic eruptions and waves of diseases-four major outbreaks of epidemics are said to have reduced the tribal people’s population by 80+ percent. Today we have the Corona Virus-19 attacking all citizens of the world. The sharing and partnering with federal, state and local health authorities has greatly helped our people be better prepared to deal with this deadly disease. A major miracle of a vaccine may not come till 2021 if at all. In the meantime—-wear face coverings, social distance, wash hands often, avoid gatherings, especially gatherings with known Corona Virus-19 outbreaks or hot spots.
