Tribal Council Representative – Simnasho District
Mr. Moody is from the Tyghpum band and the son of Enos and Charlotte Herkshan. He received and carries his grandfather’s name “Wa Soom Ah Nut”.
After graduating from Madras High School, Ray joined the United States Marine Corp and was honorably discharged in 1984. In April of 1984 began working for the Warm Springs Confederated Tribes and has served the Tribe in many capacities including: Tribal Forestry Trainee program, Timber Sale Officer for the forestry department, Warm Springs Housing Authority Assistant Director, and is currently the Assistant Manager of the 3 Warriors Market, located in Simnasho.
Mr. Moody has also served on several Tribal Council committees including Education (as a student liaison), Timber Committee (4 terms), and the Land Use Committee (1 term).
In 1988 after consultation with family elders and the longhouse leaders Captain was selected by Grant Waheneka to carry the duties and responsibilities of being a “whipman” for the Simnasho Longhouse joining Oliver Kirk and Benson Heath. Today Oliver and Captain continue to serve in this capacity.
Captain and Winnona have raised 5 children and are blessed with 6 grandchildren. Captain and his family make their home in Simnasho and are active participants in community events at the longhouse and the pow wow grounds.
